Frequently Asked Questions

NISEDO predominantly supports children and adolescents aged 4 to 18. We may also consider some young adults when the service, clinician expertise and telehealth model are a good fit.

Every referral is reviewed for suitability before an appointment is offered.

Yes. Research indicates that online and remote psychological interventions can be effective for many children and adolescents, and some telehealth CBT programs have achieved outcomes comparable with face-to-face treatment for youth anxiety.

Telehealth will not suit every person or every concern, so NISEDO considers the young person’s needs, age, communication style, privacy, safety, access to technology and ability to engage online before confirming that the service is appropriate.

Yes. NISEDO is Perth-based and provides telehealth psychology services to suitable clients throughout Australia.

Because all appointments are online, families can access support without travelling. Availability remains subject to clinical suitability and appointment capacity.

Yes. Medicare rebates may be available for eligible psychology sessions when the client has a valid referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan under the Better Access initiative.

Medicare generally covers part, rather than all, of the appointment fee, so an out-of-pocket gap may apply. Families should provide the referral before the first eligible session and contact NISEDO if they are unsure about the requirements.

Yes. NISEDO can support self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants.

NISEDO is not currently a registered NDIS provider and therefore cannot accept agency-managed or NDIA-managed participants.

The use of NDIS funding remains subject to the participant’s plan, goals, available budget and the plan manager’s approval where relevant.

Once a referral or enquiry is submitted, NISEDO reviews the information to determine whether the service appears suitable.

If it does, we contact the family to discuss their needs, answer questions and book the Initial Psychology Appointment.

An orientation pack is then provided with next steps and practical information for telehealth appointments.

The Initial Psychology Appointment is 90 minutes.

Most ongoing Individual Psychology Sessions and My Inner Anthem sessions are 60 minutes.

Appointment lengths for parent or caregiver consultations, extended sessions, brief reviews and other professional work may vary and will be confirmed when booking.

No. NISEDO is not a crisis, emergency or after-hours service and cannot provide an immediate response or continuous monitoring.

If there is immediate danger, call 000 or attend the nearest emergency department.

For crisis support in Australia, contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.

Families should discuss a safety plan and appropriate local crisis supports with their treating professionals.

The Initial Psychology Appointment is usually attended by a parent or caregiver, often together with the young person, so we can develop a thorough understanding of the presenting concerns, relevant background and family priorities.

Ongoing sessions are typically attended by the child or adolescent alone. However, NISEDO is flexible and can involve parents when clinically helpful, developmentally appropriate or needed to support access and engagement.

Privacy and confidentiality will be explained at the beginning of therapy.

My Inner Anthem is NISEDO’s signature music-based psychology intervention, where sessions integrate evidence-based psychological approaches with music.

It draws upon CBT and ACT concepts through creative, developmentally appropriate activities connected to the young person’s musical interests.

Sessions may incorporate music, lyric exploration and other reflective exercises to support emotional expression, self-awareness, coping skills, identity, values and confidence.

My Inner Anthem is adapted to each young person’s therapeutic goals and is not a music lesson or performance program.

You will need a laptop, desktop computer, tablet or smartphone with:

A stable and secure internet connection

A working camera and microphone

The Zoom application installed and updated

Headphones are optional but may improve privacy and sound quality.

Please join the appointment from a quiet, well-lit and private space where the young person can participate comfortably. A parent or caregiver may need to assist younger children with setting up the device and joining the session.
